Happy birthday to #3. LUCAS, you are 7 years old now and I am amazed at the leaps and bounds you have grown this year. your birthday celebration all began on Tuesday, the 11th...a day before your actual birthday. Papa took you to lunch at BK and after school Grama Tina took you on your annual birthday shopping trip. You picked out a robot that can dance and do all kinds of fun stuff. It was the hit of the week. On Wed, your actual birthday, we headed to the Pizza Factory for dinner and came home for cake & ice cream and ... your favorite part.... presents. This is where that birthday cake comes into play. I didn't even get a picture of spongebob and Patrick surfing on the generous waves of sugary blue frosting. Nor did we get the chance to enjoy the soft chocolate cake and filling as we loaded our mouths with forkfuls of the moist yummy cake. Sadly, we will never know if that cake was as moist and yummy as it looked. But, Sammy knows. Sammy is the only one who knows how good that WHOLE cake tasted. As we rushed to get p.j.'s on and rushed to get presents ready and rushed to get to the kitchen.... Sammy had already rushed the cake.
All that remained was the suspicious blue smear on the kitchen floor. The look on your face Lucas, as the tears began to well, just tugged on my heart. Papa yelled that he was running to the store to get a new cake... but, being 9 p m and a school night I had another idea. I wonder if anyone has ever celebrated their birthday with a doughnut hole cake before. Strange but true. I grabbed a stash of doughnut holes we had on hand and piled them on a plate and stuck the long sparkler candles through them like skewers. An insta-cake. Lucas, we will always remember your 7th birthday as the doughnut hole cake birthday. YUM!
