As I sit at home with sick kiddos I am going through pictures of Lucas' soccer season. We just had the end-of-the year team party on Friday and he played his last game of the season on Saturday. The Fighting Sharks had a great last game and Lucas was filled with enthusiasm as he bopped around the field with the swarm made up of his fellow teamates. The "enthusiasm" was not always his favored emotion when it came to soccer. I had signed Lucas up for his first season of soccer without filling him in on the details. As we drove to the park for his first practice I mentioned that I had some cool cleats (hand-me-downs from Jackson) and shin gaurds for him and that we would need to put them on when we got to the park. I explained that we would be meeting his new soccer teamates. For those of you that know Lucas well, you can probably guess his reaction was, well, less than enthusiastic. "Soccer is lame Mom. I am absolutely not playing soccer" was his sraight-faced reply. I predicted this would be the case, God bless his little heart. I also predicted that Lucas would LOVE soccer once he gave it a chance. I knew his competitive nature would take over and once it did....watch out! On that first day of practice, as Lucas hid under the cement picnic table, I was second guessing myself. This was a bad decision! It was a struggle to get him out on the field. However, over the course of the season, Lucas got out on that field with a BIG smile on his face. He really bonded with his teamates and looked forward to putting on his uniform and getting into the games. What an amazing thing to see Lucas transform and grow through his first team sports experience. Not so lame afterall. Now, let's see how he likes his first baseball season....
